ACHIEVEMENT
Organization Name: Samoa Conservation Society (SCS)
Overview: Formed in 2013, the Samoa Conservation Society (SCS) is a membership based non-governmental environmental organization dedicated to promoting the conservation of Samoa's biological diversity and natural heritage. SCS works collaboratively with Samoan communities, the Government and NGO partners to raise awareness on the state of Samoa's environment, research the status of threatened species and implement practical conservation projects to save them. We also focus our effort on schools and youth groups to educate them on Samoa's natural heritage and actions that can help recover threatened species and habitats.
Activities: SCS is involved in a wide range of conservation activities in our project villages which span Samoa from Falealupo (Savaii) to Uafato (Upolu) and many sites in between. Samoa's biological diversity and natural heritage are constantly under threat (eg from invasive species, over harvesting and over exploitation, habitat degradation, pollution and climate change) and SCS works to reduce and manage these threats.
Key activities:
1) Species conservation and awareness campaign
• Manumea conservation and public awareness campaign
• Rare and endemic plants collection, conservation and awareness campaign
• Butterfly conservation and public awareness campaign
